Process and Clean-up

Real snow doesn’t leave any trace and neither does ours. We always return the set to the same state that it was when we found it. Most of the time it is left in better condition!

Cleaning up our snow upon completion of a shoot is a critical part of our snow-making process. We take the clean-up process seriously so we can preserve the locations for future filmmakers as well as making sure that we are welcomed back to that location in the future.

Outline of our typical process from start to finish

  • All drains where water can flow to will be covered to prevent any of our artificial snow products from flowing into them. This step might not always be necessary depending upon the location.

  • All grassy areas where snow is to be dressed is covered in our SnowMembrane product.

  • Snow dressing on trees and rooftops is primarily done with our PowderFrost product and is applied with our snow blowing equipment.
  • Snow dressing on the ground and bushes is done with either SnowBase or our SnowCel product and is also applied with our snow blowing equipment.

  • Both the PowderFrost, SnowBase, and SnowCel are cellulose products and are completely safe for the environment and will not cause any damage to plant life, crew, or animals.

  • During the clean-up process for the snow, we will clean-up all the SnowBase/SnowCel products from the bushes (if necessary) and SnowMembrane and then dispose of if in dumpsters.
  • The next step would be to wash down the trees and rooftop with water. This is done in a manner that will allow this snow to be captured on the SnowMembrane that was laid during the initial dressing of the location. Once all the artificial snow has been washed off and captured in the SnowMembrane, we will roll up the SnowMembrane and dispose of that as well in dumpsters.

  • In conjunction with our crew washing down and capturing the artificial snow, we will also have street sweepers on hand to clean-up any snow that may have transferred onto the streets. We also have hand-held motorized sweepers that our crewmembers will also be using to pick up any additional snow at the location.
